He can lift it alone. “只有，仅仅”(=only)e.g.He alone can lift it. lonely adj.“孤单的”，“寂寞的”，“偏僻的”, “荒凉的”。 既可作定语，也可作表语。 a lonely life in the country 乡下的孤寂生活 a lonely island 一座荒岛 4. think ... to be ...=... be thought to be think of ... as ... think well/highly/much of sb./sth. think badly/little/ill of sb. / sth. 5. appear: (1)看起来似appear：强调外表给人的印象，有时含有实际并非如此的意思。 seem：暗示有一定根据的判断这种判断往往接近真实。 look：着重由视觉得出的印象。作联系动词，后接形容词、名词，也可接to be 的不定式。 (2)appear / seem+ to do，而look作此意时，只能是look + to be， 若look+ to do,意思是“盼望”。 (3)有It appears/seems that...结构，而look不能，但都可接as if引导的表语从句。 (4)有There appears/seems to be ...结构，look不能。 (5)有seem/look like ...，而appear不能。 6. on/over the air通过无线电广播 in the air在空中 in the open air在野外 7. remain (1)remain作连系动词时，意思是“留下” “继续保持某种状态”，此时remain=stay. The bar remains/ stays open till midnight. (2)表示其他人或物已离开原地,这时的“保留”用remain而不用stay。 Much work remains to be done. (3)表示“暂住”、“暂留”，而不与其他人比较时，用stay而不用remain。 He wants to stay with his friend in the country. (4)leave指把某物留给某人或将某物忘在某 Don't leave today's work for tomorrow. I left my key in the room. leave还可接复合宾语，即leave+宾+形 容词/名词/分词/介词短语等。 8. for example：可作为独立语插入句中，不影响句子其他成分的 语法关系。有时可放在句首举例说明上文的内容。 such as:不能作为独立语插入句中，也不能放在句首;它通常放在它要说明的那些词之后。 9.It is easy/ difficult/ necessary/ important/ (im)possible for sb.to do It is careful /careless /rude/ brave/ kind / nice ... of sb.to do sth. 注意：形容词后的介词for和of的选择。 It is careful/careless ..of sb.to do sth. =sb.be careful/careless to do sth.如果能这样变换，就用of。
